‘An Analysis Of Significant Recent Developments In 2017’

This paper will provide a thorough update and analysis of key developments in employment litigation in recent months. Particular issues to be addressed will include:

  • The Workplace Relations Act 2015: Where are we Now?
  • The Employment Injunction: an analysis of the latest developments
  • Bullying in the Workplace: an analysis of case law this year
  • Terminating the employment contract: key developments concerning dismissal and redundancy in 2017.

Dr. Desmond Ryan LL.B. (Dub.), B.C.L., M.A. (Oxon.), Ph.D. (Dub), is a practising barrister in the Law Library, Dublin, and is an Assistant Professor in the School of Law at Trinity College Dublin. Dr. Ryan’s principal areas of research interest are in Employment Law and Tort Law, with a particular emphasis on the contract of employment, vicarious liability and dismissal law. He is interested in all aspects of the law of obligations and is a convenor of the Private Law Discussion Group. During the 2017-2017 academic year, Dr Ryan will be a Visiting Fellow at Exeter College Oxford. Dr Ryan teaches Employment Law, Tort Law, and the Law of Obligations on the LL.B. programmes at Trinity College Dublin. He has published widely in journals including The Cambridge Law Journal, the Civil Justice Quarterly, Legal Studies, The Conveyancer and Property Lawyer, the Dublin University Law Journal, the Irish Employment Law Journal and the Northern Ireland Legal Quarterly. He is also the co-author of the textbook ‘Employment Law in Ireland’ (Dublin, 2009).
